Children who have signed up will get the first opportunity. (Children ages 4 & up who are able to read or are beginning to learn to read) Very young children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.     Sing, Sign & Story Time uses stories and song to teach American Sign Language (ASL) to children and their grown-ups, a few signs at a time. Pick up a new language, and improve communication skills between you and your child, even if your child isn’t talking yet. It’s easy when it’s fun. (Ages infant to 7 years, with adult)

    Join the local Coder Dojo Group! Coder Dojo is an international organization that organizes computer programming clubs for kids. The Lancaster Coder Dojo is run by local professional computer programmers. (Ages 7 -18. Adult participation welcome.) You may bring your own tech, or borrow a Library laptop to work on during the session.

    This month we will build circuits using Arduino – an open source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software.  It’s a great way to learn how to make interactive projects.   This beginner program will also provide a solid introduction to electronic components and circuit building.   If you’re already participating in our coding programs (Coder Dojo, Hour of Code, Minecraft), and want to take it further, this is a great way to learn!

    Appropriate for ages 10+.  In order to use our laptops, participants should have their own library accounts with digital permission or bring their own tech.   Family members welcome to observe.

    Please note that in order to access the library’s computers, you will be asked to provide your active library card in good standing (no fines).  Youth library accounts must have parental authorization to access the Intenet.  If you do not have a Lancaster County library account, you may provide appropriate state identification and sign a digital usage agreement.

    Join the local Coder Dojo Group! Coder Dojo is an international organization that organizes computer programming clubs for kids. The Lancaster Coder Dojo is run by local professional computer programmers. (Ages 7 -18. Adult participation welcome.) You may bring your own tech, or borrow a Library laptop to work on during the session.

    Register online, by phone, or in person the next time you visit Manheim Township Public Library. Space may be limited.

    Lancaster Coder Dojo also meets at Lancaster Public Library (125 North Duke Street) on the fourth Tuesday of the month. To attend LPL’s sessions, please visit their website to learn how to register for sessions at LPL.

    Beginning with a read-aloud of  her picture book, “It Began with a Song,” Katrina asks you to notice the many types of animals depicted in the story. She then gives a demonstration of how to draw animals using basic shapes like circles, ovals, rectangles and triangles. Draw your own animals and then write a caption for your drawing, as if it were an illustration for a book. (ages 5-9) Limit 30.

    Young children learn best when they are able to construct knowledge through meaningful play. Join us for a free play session with wooden unit blocks, where preschoolers have the freedom to build and play as they wish! At the same time, children will experiment, manipulate objects, work with others, count and measure, and build vocabulary.

(Must be an older 3 year old-6 years old with an adult. Adults and children may participate) Limit: 12 children.

  • Paws to Read with K-pets

    Children love dogs, and these dogs love to listen to children read! Dogs from K-Pets and their humans (otherwise known as trainers) will visit the Children’s Library Tuesday evenings so children can read to them. Children who have signed up will get the first opportunity. (Children ages 4 & up who are able to read or are beginning to learn to read) Very young children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.     Sing, Sign & Story Time uses stories and song to teach American Sign Language (ASL) to children and their grown-ups, a few signs at a time. Pick up a new language, and improve communication skills between you and your child, even if your child isn’t talking yet. It’s easy when it’s fun. (Ages infant to 7 years, with adult)

The Lancaster Coder Dojo is run by local professional computer programmers. (Ages 7 -18. Adult participation welcome.) You may bring your own tech, or borrow a Library laptop to work on during the session.
