Leroy Hopkins will present a three part series lecture and power point on the Underground Railroad. Leroy was born and raised in Lancaster County. He is a retired Millersville professor. As the associate director of the local Urban League he found local African-Americans lacked a sense of their history and their connection to the community. Leroy put the question to himself in 1977 “Does Lancaster County have a Black history?” He has been answering it ever since.
Part 1: Enslaved Africans in Lancaster County. Who were the owners? How were the Africans used? And the growth of local free African societies.
